Painterly Painters, 2014 | Oil on canvas | 44 x 40 inches
As she writes on her website, Jennifer Pochinski is an American figurative painter. Her work is characterized by gestural marks and color. Relationships, the male-female power dynamics and humanity are key themes in her work.
Jennifer Pochinski, With You I Leave
For me she combines the strengths of early-twentieth century European painting (Matisse, Bonnard, et al) and mid-century California painting (Diebenkorn, Park, et at) while remaining fresh by drawing on contemporary themes and visual culture (using Instagram for inspiration). Pochinski’s paintings are obviously concerned with the figure, but have a bold abstract quality. They create a sense of place that both reference the everyday and the imagined.
