I have a show of new work opening next week… here’s the press release.

Four  Eleven Gallery Presents:

Four Eleven Gallery, located at 411 Commercial Street in Provincetown, announces All Summer the Sound of the Sea: New Work by Pete Hocking. The show opens on Friday, September 1st with an artist reception from 7 – 9  PM, The show runs through Thursday, September 14th. In addition to the show, Hocking’s paintings are available to view and purchase at fourelevengallery.com

Of his new work Pete Hocking says, “I’m told that from my yard just above Pamet Valley, before the forest started to come back, you could see both Cape Cod Bay and the Atlantic. When the wind is right, and traffic calm, I can hear crashing waves through my kitchen window. Whether directly on the beach or reverberating across our narrow land, tidal energy gives cadence to my days and, on the best of them, offers reassurance of a world bigger than I can conceive. These paintings attempt to capture some of that coastal energy but are, of course, limited by my perception.”

Pete Hocking is an interdisciplinary artist, activist, and teacher who lives and works on the Outer Cape. His artworks are concerned both spatial poetics and the one’s emotional connection to place. He’s interested in the ways that individual human identities are inscribed into human and non-human landscapes, and ultimately in the ways that the non-human world defies human intervention. Hocking is an independent painting instructor and offers summer workshops through the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He is a founder of Provincetown Commons.

About Four Eleven Gallery: For over 50 years, the rambling White House at 411 Commercial Street has been a studio and home to many artists and writers. Now in its thirteenth season, Four Eleven is a true painters’ gallery, representing contemporary artists living and working in Provincetown and the Outer Cape. It has been said by many locals that the gallery evokes a feeling of old Provincetown. Our works are informed by our love for this place and this community.
